Saint John the Evangelist Chapel & Deacon House Chapel
Saint John's Seminary
Restoration, including Liturgical Design, Crucifix, Sacred Art & Fundraising
Brighton, MA
The Rohn team developed a comprehensive Catholic liturgical master plan for St. John the Evangelist Chapel, guiding the restoration of sacred art, along with liturgical design for furnishings, Catholic statues, and future phases of restoration.
Work included careful liturgical art restoration, including the conservation of historic apse murals by renowned church artist Gonippo Raggi. Originally painted over a century ago, the sanctuary murals were restored alongside ornamental painting surrounding the stained glass windows. The painstaking church mural restoration recovered original colors, forms, and gilded details that had been diminished through age and previous restorations.
The team also restored a priceless crucifix depicting the Four Evangelists, returned it to its original location, and created an integrated design program for custom liturgical furniture, statuary, and future phases of work. Rohn also supported the seminary’s church capital campaign with project visuals and planning materials.
Additionally, the team designed and painted an custom apsidal mural for St. John’s Deacon House Chapel, evoking the rich mosaic artistry of the Basilica of Sant’Apollinaire in Classe—a UNESCO World Heritage site near Ravenna, Italy.
