Statue of Bishop John Carroll – First Catholic Bishop of the United States
This distinguished statue honors Bishop John Carroll, the first Catholic bishop in the United States and a pivotal figure in the early history of the American Church. Appointed by Pope Pius VI and consecrated in 1790, Carroll was instrumental in organizing the Catholic hierarchy in the U.S., founding Georgetown University, and promoting religious liberty in a new nation.
The sculpture portrays Carroll with a book in hand—symbolizing his wisdom, scholarship, and commitment to education—and wearing traditional episcopal vestments, including a cape and pectoral cross. Rendered with dignity and historical reverence, it powerfully embodies his leadership and legacy.
Originally created as a model for a bronze installation in the Altoona Cathedral, this piece is now available for acquisition. It makes a meaningful addition to Catholic cathedrals, schools, universities, diocesan centers, or heritage exhibits honoring the foundation of the Church in America.
Our artists can tailor its finish and visual details to resonate beautifully with your environment, ensuring a seamless integration into any sacred or institutional setting.
