Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption
Renovation & Restoration, including Liturgical Design, Furnishings, Sacred Art & Statues
Marietta, OH

Rohn Design led a full interior renovation and restoration effort that contributed to this historic church’s designation as a minor basilica by Pope Francis.

We designed a cohesive sanctuary master plan that included space formation, liturgical art and church murals, liturgical furniture and appointments, custom mosaics, murals, hand-carved Catholic statuary, and interior decoration. The updated plan also addressed structural repairs, created a new gathering space and Reconciliation Room, and improved accessibility to the chapel and sacristy.

A marble altar housing relics of saints now anchors the sanctuary, surrounded by restored murals, refinished furnishings, and additions such as a tabernacle stand, ambo, baptimal font, crucifixion scene, and Holy Family statues. A custom mural commemorating the first Holy Mass celebrated in the region was also created as part of the sacred art program. Marian devotion is honored through an Our Lady of Perpetual Help mosaic and intricate Life of Mary murals and inscriptions encircling the church dome.
