Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church
Sacred Art Program, including Custom Church Murals & Statue Restoration

Rohn Design developed and executed a comprehensive Catholic sacred art program for the newly rebuilt Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Copiague, NY, following a devastating fire that destroyed the original church.

 

The project includes richly detailed church murals depicting Marian themes such as the Seven Sorrows of Mary, bringing scenes from the life of the Blessed Mother into the church interior. Historic statues—among them beautifully restored adoring angels—were meticulously conserved, allowing cherished works from the original church to remain part of the parish’s renewed worship environment.

Working closely with the pastor, our team also contributed to the sanctuary floor plan, church lighting design, and the development of a cohesive interior color scheme to unify the space. The Stations of the Cross were integrated into the design, with their placement and custom framing coordinated with the surrounding artwork. Dropdown project screens were also added to support parish activities without disrupting the visual harmony of the sanctuary.

The custom sacred art was developed through multiple stages of black-and-white sketches and color renderings. Each design was then applied to walls and ceilings to create a unified program of Catholic imagery throughout the church.

Currently in progress is a striking stained glass window of Michael the Archangel, designed by Rohn and executed under his direction. This 10' x 5' installation behind the altar adds another major work of Catholic sacred art to the sanctuary, portraying Michael the Archangel as a symbol of divine protection and justice.

St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church in Rochester, NY, also features liturgical design and sacred art following its reconstruction after a fire.​
