Liturgical Design, Furnishings, Crucifix, Sacred Art & Stained Glass
Bomana, Papua New Guinea
Rohn & Associates Design provided Catholic chapel design and liturgical art services for a new chapel serving the Capuchin Friars in Bomana, Papua New Guinea. Our team guided the chapel layout and helped gather and send liturgical furnishings and Catholic sacred art to furnish the chapel and support its use for prayer and worship.
Among the donated furnishings were a granite altar, handcrafted chairs and tables, and hand-painted banners of saints. The centerpiece is a luminous stained glass San Damiano Crucifix, commissioned for the chapel and inspired by the cross that played a pivotal role in St. Francis of Assisi’s conversion. Depicting Christ in glory surrounded by scenes from the Gospel, the crucifix embodies the Franciscan tradition and serves as a powerful focus for prayer and devotion. The custom Catholic artwork made a 56-day ocean voyage before reaching Papua New Guinea.
Each piece was selected to honor the Franciscan heritage and support the Friars’ mission of prayer and service. This international collaboration brought lasting beauty and sacred meaning to a remote faith community, creating a Catholic worship space that connects liturgical design, artwork, and the spiritual life of the Capuchin Friars.
