Rohn Design led the complete historic chapel renovation and restoration of the Chapel of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. The renovation preserved the chapel’s historic character while adapting it to support Catholic worship.

The liturgical design master plan included sanctuary design and space formation, custom altar, tabernacle and tabernacle throne, baptismal font, ambo, hand-carved Italian crucifix, and interior decoration. It also incorporated low-relief carvings depicting the history of the congregation, along with the restoration of original surfaces and sacred art.

 

Rolf designed meaningful details, such as the Amor Meus—"My Love"—marble flooring, to reflect the Sisters’ mission to make tangible the healing love of Jesus, the Incarnate Word, by promoting human dignity. The tympanum, presider’s chair, and deacon’s chair were restored, complemented by custom and restored art glass.

A new Reserved Eucharist Chapel was introduced to provide a dedicated place for Eucharistic devotion. Church lighting design and control systems were developed to highlight key liturgical elements and support the prayerful atmosphere. The project also included a vesting area, sacristy, and storage spaces, along with liturgical updates throughout the chapel.

 

The team also guided church fundraising efforts as part of the interior and exterior renovation, restoration, and building program.
